Bach Zum Mitsingen

Bach Zum Mitsingen - Catalonia news

The project Bach zum Mitsingen adapts the German tradition of Bachkantate zum Mitsingen. Since April 2011, Pau Jorquera and Daniel Tarrida have led this project, which offers J.S. Bach’s cantatas in a participative way.

The Bachkantate zum Mitsingen are a German tradition that consists of rehearsing and playing J.S. Bach’s cantatas in the same weekend, according to the Lutheran liturgical calendar. Bach zum Mitsingen brings this tradition toCatalonia in a very similar way to the old days: Bach wrote the cantatas for a specific date and now they’re played on that date, with old instruments and being rehearsed and played only in churches.

These are participative cantatas, because the word Mitsingen means “open song that everybody can join”. Even so, these compositions are really difficult, so the project is especially aimed at singers with musical knowledge and choir experience. An ensemble and professional singers accompany the participants: the Cor BZM and the BZM Palou Ensemble do that with instruments from the baroque period.
