The origin of the International Music Festival in Torroella de Montgrí was in 1980. The first edition of the musical festival was composed by only five concerts. As in its origin, the festival is situated in gothic and renaissance places like Sant Genís Churc,SolterraPalaceand the main square.
Although it is a youth festival, the musical tradition of Torroella the Montgrí can be found in Middle Ages. At that moment, Torroella de Montgrí was a King’s town and thanks to that during the XV century it was built there the Music Chappel.
The main agenda of the festival is classical occidental music, but it also has another kind of music and cultures. Since its origins, the festival is an example of mix between highbrow music and popular.
Every year the festival is situated in Sant Genís church and in the main square, two emblematic places in Costa Bravawhich allows visitors to enjoy music interpretations since soloists, chamber music groups, corals and symphonic orchestra coming around the world.
The first edition of Music Festival in Torroella de Montgrí was celebrated in 1980 and since 1982 is a member from European Association of Festivals.
