Garrotxa's volcanic zone

Äigüestores National Park

There are a lot of resorts to visit in Catalonia, because of the great biodiversity that characterises this country. One of the most emblematic is Aigüestortes National Park, the only National Park that exists in Catalonia.

Aigüestortes National Park is located in four regions: Alta Ribagorça, Pallars Sobirà, Vall d’Aran and Pallars Jussà. The principal characteristic is his high mountains views, because the park has got peaks that are higher than 3.000 meters. It also has got 200 lakes and uncountable streams.

Montserrat

Montserrat Mountainis one of the most emblematic places in Catlonia and during the 365 days in the year receives visitors that came from every part of the world. This mountain, situated near the river Llobregat, has a monastery situated at725 mover sea level and in that Benedictine monastery is placed “La Escolania” one of the most ancient coral group of kids in Europe and “La Moreneta” the virgin of Montserrat.

Sagrada Familia

Sagrada Familia is one of the unfinished architectonic creations of Antoni Gaudí who assume the direction of the construction in 1883 and worked in it until his death, in 1926. Situated in the centre of Barcelonait is considerate the maximum exponent of Catalan modernistic architecture, and it’s also a symbol for the city and for Catalonia. Its origin is dated in 1882, as a consequence of another architect, the diocesan Franciso de Paula villar. The basilica was consecrated of Pope Benedict XVI in November 2010.

Salt Route

The first sportive edition of “Salt Route” was celebrated in 1989. This first yacht race was promoted by the association ANAM, 36 ships departed from “Port Ginesta” (Barcelona) in direction to Balearic Islands, the end of the route. Since 1990 the number of contestants has increased and that’s why since 1992, “Sal Route” has been converted in a very success event with more supporters every year. Nowadays an average of 300 contestants takes part of this event every year.

Shubertiada in Vialbertran

The origin of this cultural event was in the meetings that Franz Shubert organised with his friends in Vienna and was called “Shubertiada”. In these sessions, Shubert showed his new compositions and others from other compositors who continued with these meetings even after Shubert died. From those meetings came the “Shubertiada” in Vilabertran which is celebrated in the Romanesque church of Santa Maria de Vilabertran.
